originally unoriginal

Trying to think of ideas for this here blog is not the easiest. My goal is to attempt to publish posts that are actually interesting to read, even browse or scan through if you will. Another is to not make this thing I've got going sound too much of the diary of teenage girl, thankfully I've progressed out of that. With that said it comes with the obligation (kind of a strong, binding word here) for me to be "original" with what I write. I don't know if it's just me but the thought of being "original" or doing something "original" has become such a cliché. Isn't that what we're all doing? Everyone's being "original". But what's unoriginal exactly? Social media has totally changed our viewpoints on a lot of things and I honestly hate it. It feels like everything has been said, all opinions have been given, every idea thought out and created. That's a totally different issue though. Mostly, I'm inspired by the things that I see and everyone around me--so are all of you--and I take that and elaborate on the idea. Easy enough. Well NOPE!

Most of the time the idea become all discombobulated in my head and it's all just one big mess. The following illustration represents the portrayal of said event:

I was recently browsing some site/app whatever it was that had a collection of various art pieces. Basically just a bunch of things that I love. Some (one) actually were a bit nostalgic. Exhibit A

My goodness! Space Ghost Coast to Coast. This is in my pile of ridiculous but great and random shows from the 90s. *Sidenote: add Gargoyles to that list as well. It was quite possibly the scariest thing I've seen as a child. I thought the entire storyline was a little intense for young children but that's just me.

Exhibits B,C, and D:

Looking at the aesthetics of things has become a life goal of mine. That's why I have a fondness for art and the idea behind different pieces. Even the ones at MoMA that consists of a bag of cat food in the corner of the room and the others that I doubtlessly could have produced myself. But hey, I'm not complaining...yes I am.

beat this summer

We're now rounding the corner into my most dreaded time of year, summer time. That probably sounds strange so allow me to clarify. The thought of the season of summer, in my opinion, is more appealing than its reality. At the moment, I cannot think of anything more brutal than a hot New York summer. Let's just say I prefer not to have my skin melt off by just sitting in a chair. So basically the heat is a total turnoff.

However, one thing I absolutely love about the summer is music. Now, obviously I listen to music all year round, almost everyday, but there is something about a feel good song on a bright summer day that I just love. Especially driving down the highway with no traffic. Well, maybe some traffic. This IS New York. My favorite genre happens to be Country and it is the total essence of the season for me.

I've compiled a playlist on Spotify of my 2014 country songs (and non-country songs) of the summer which I've titled, "Beat this Summer 2014". It's a mix of various tracks both currently on the charts and some not so recent. It will be on repeat through September no doubt. Here's a few of the songs. No particular order in terms of favorites:

*highlighted in red are just a few of my number ones.*

One that is actually not listed on this playlist but should be (my apologies) is "Forever" by my favorite, FAVORITE (female) band HAIM. If you have not heard of them by now, I'm not sure what you have been doing because they are my love.

"Forever" totally belongs on the summer playlist. It's so...good. Just a brief history on my love for the Haim sisters. One Saturday night I "discovered" them on Saturday Night Live and I must not tell a lie, I was absolutely annoyed by their performance of "The Wire" and was upset that the song became jammed inside of my brain by the end of the night. A few days later, I somehow came around to watching the music video and that was it. I was actually kind of disappointed in myself for being so disgusted (I use this word loosely) with the performance. One word to describe my relationship with Haim: obsessed. Not crazy or creepy or anything obviously. Danielle Haim is what I'd like to say is, in the words of Beyonce, "flawless". No, really.

here's "Forever".
